‘Any successful change requires a translation of ambiguous goals into concrete behaviors. To make a switch, you need to script the critical moves.’ —Dan and Chip Heath, Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard

As mentioned in the above quote by Dan & Chip Heath, critical moves in a SAFe transformation need to be scripted. If it’s not done well, it can lead to failure. Even the slightest failure becomes bigger while scaling. Hence utmost care is to be taken during the SAFe Transformation.

Let’s ask a few questions to ourselves about our product development at scale.

  • Are Leaders driving the transformation?
  • Are we in a Product Mindset (instead of a Project mindset) while building a product?
  • Are we really agile before scaling?
  • Are we really building what customer “needs”?
  • Are we operating as ONE team (not in silo-s as independent teams), while building a scaled solution?

If the answer is NO to one or more of the above questions, then it’s critical to address them to have a successful transformation result.
